Most of the cats I have had put the puppies in their place really quickly. In my house, cats rule, dogs drool.
The oldest cat is 1/4 bobcat, and three times bigger than the dogs, and she will smack them good if they get out of line.
The rest of the cats ignore the dogs, and the cats have a dog free room they can go to, that's barricaded, so they can jump over if the dogs are being obnoxious.
