I have found baby gates to be cheaper then ones meant for dogs we have one of every kind almost lol. For the stairs we have one the pressure mounts and has a door in it, then we have the pressure mounted one with no gate which is a pain sometimes then we have a free standing one and that might be my favorite because it folds up pretty small and is so easy to move. Callie had never touched it to move it and when Sammy comes over he never touches it either and we have it on tile.
