The breathing problem for Yorkies and other small breeds is in their very delicate tracheas, the breathing tube that goes down their throat to the lungs. The cartilage can collapse and cause great difficulties. If that is the problem, medications and sometimes surgery can help. There is also something call "reverse sneezing" that sounds just like this but ISN'T harmful.

When Higgins was a baby, he developed a gagging problem that turned out to be very swollen tonsils. Some nice butterscotch flavored liquid antibiotic from the vet took care of those tonsils nicely and stopped the gagging.

If, after a couple of days, it hasn't improved, I would most certainly take him to a vet who treats many small breed dogs and is familiar with the trachea problems they are subject to.

I hope Pippin improves! Please DO keep us posted.

Hugs from Higgins and me...
