I've always used elevated bowls for both of mine. I hear it can cause reflux and indigestion having them on the floor. The only recommendation I would make is to try to get ceramic bowls if you can. I only say that because neither of mine will eat out of stainless. Although..sometimes I think it is the width of the bowls that is the problem...they don't like their ears to touch the bowl. So, I would also recommend as small a bowl as possible to keep his ears from touching.
