Hi~I just wanted to update on Hippo (my blue born puppy)!! He is not so little anymore!! He will be 2 years old in 3 months!!
I'll give a little history: His mom is a reddish/tan with blue back (6 pounds) & his dad is blonde with a silver back (4 pounds). They were both really healthy dogs from reputable breeders. So when we bred them ~ we were surprised to see a silver pup in the litter. She had 3 boys. We named this blue born pup 'Hippo' because he looked like a tiny fat Hippo!! He was a whopping 6.5 oz at birth!! His mom had no complications ~ they were all born healthy & he was the 2nd one born. The first one was 6 oz & the last boy was 4 oz. So he was always the biggest & strongest!! He was also the smartest & the first one to pad train & eat solid food.
I too had read horrific things to do to this precious little blue born pup ~ I obviously could not!! & gave him a chance at life!! His vet told us he is extremely healthy & he also has a blue born Doberman that is equally extremely healthy!! He definitely agreed NOT to kill these puppies!! In his expertise ~ if blue borns are deathly sick ~ they would've been anyways ~ just like you can get deathly sick 'normal' coloured dogs!!
The do have very sparse hair & it feels coarser than the other yorkies ~ but we love him just the same!!
Hippo has grown to a very muscular 9 pounds!!! The vet said he has never seen such large, muscular hind quarters on a yorkie before!! He is very healthy!! He runs & runs & runs on our 2 acre property ~ never seeming to hardly tire!! He also thinks he is a heard dog & heards our 2 milk goats when they are in the pasture!!
He is still a smarty & does tricks too!! His favourite is to jump up & twirl for treats!!
We definitely are enjoying our blue born yorkie!!
