Dogs can get vaccinated for it and still get kennel cough and vice versa, dogs can also not be vaccinated and won't get it.
It's just like a human cold. Some will catch it and some won't. Those that are stressed or have lower immune systems are more likely to show symptoms. It is self limiting. You can get antibiotics or antitussives to minimize your symptoms but it will eventually go away even without this unless you have other problems on top of it like pneumonia or an already comprised immune system.
So Bordetella is really a roll of the dice, it may help, it may not. To me the risks of giving the vaccine outweigh the limited benefits it gives. |
