Well firstly the sniffing of another dogs butt is the way they say Hello and only rude to them if it is well to long of to rough a sniff.
On Talking Terms with dogs by Truid Rugrass I think mentions this.
As far as smellling own pee it is normal for a dog under stress to pee and smell ther own as a way to calm themselves down.
Mine tends to poop if she stressing.
