I've donated open bags of kibble to my local humane society, after I'd bought different food and ZoE didn't like it.
My daughter volunteered there in high school and she said people often brought in food, and they would photocopy your driver's license & staple it to the bag (they'd also then use your info to send you a thank you and let you know of other donated items they accept, such as clean linens/blankets/towels, collars, leashes, etc.
