I think you did the right thing..no matter if you have hindsight. You prevented a theft of your property and very likely deterred them from coming back. You've seen them. They won't come back.
As soon as you said the guy told you he was turning around in your driveway, I sat up in my chair because something similar happened to me a few months after moving into this house. I leave for work at the same time every day. Well, this one day, I went to the drugstore first. It is in the opposite direction of work and I live on Main Street..sooo, I had to drive back by my house on the way to work. I had already decided to stop and drop off something at the house so I slowed down to pull LEFT into my driveway at the EXACT moment that a truck was pulling RIGHT into my driveway. He pulled pretty far up my long driveway and then put it in reverse. Like, he suddenly realized *I* was right behind him. I got out and asked if I could help him and he said, "Oh, I was just turning around."
Look at it like this...same as with me...You were MEANT to be there right then and right there. I have no doubt in my mind. If you had waited and just watched, there is no telling what might have happened..it may have ended dangerously for you. You did the right thing
