If you have a fenced in yard a high fence, that should be good. I even with 6.5 foot fences walked out with my gal into the backyard for her pees n poos.

If no fenced in yard, well always on lead, and \I would not stray too far from home.

With a halter it is great you could yank her up and away, how-ever a full male would not leave the two of you alone. Any full male of any size will want to mate her, and if she is up in your arms, that might stop a few males but not the majority. That means the male will leap up onto you to get to your female. A six pound male not such a problem, but what if it is a 80 to 100 lb dog? You will go down for sure.
