I'm not as familiar with larger breed dogs and whether or not they are kept by breeders until 12 weeks.
I brought home my second boy, Teddy, at 8 months and like to joke that I wish I had left my first one with the breeder that long. Teddy was perfectly trained at 8 months. |
Large breed dogs usually go home at eight weeks old here. One has to balance the extra socialization time with Mom, to the size of the puppy you will be taking home; and the bonding and training with you. This is very very important to the large guard and protect breeds.
Understand a Large breed dog will be going home at about 20 lbs or more at eight weeks old. Hypoglycemia is not an issue at all.
But early training with your owner is!
