I've trusted YT and asked the breeder to hold onto my little Pippa for a few more weeks. Can anyone explain why usually 8 weeks is ok, but for Yorkies it is 12 weeks? Is it perhaps because they are so tiny?

8wks old is a generic age, that does not account for the challenges and breed discriminate requirements of the toy breed.
And weight is certainly an issue, but also the added time with Mom and the litter. This gives the puppies much more time to socialize, to learn pack dynamics et al.
