It is difficult to diagnose. The specialists I use still do the labs but also do ultrasounds. Teddy was diagnosed with pancreatitis the day that he ended up so sick (he had elevated lipase and amylase) ... that night was when he ended up at the EC with bladder stones and then he ended up at the specialist the next day. They were holding off on surgery because of the concern of pancreatitis...but he ended up with a blocked urethra the next day so they had to operate...and that is when they did an exploratory and found the liver shunt. He had issues after with his tummy and they think he has IBD. They have held off on scoping him and are treating him with diet...so far so good. Probably what he had the day before the surgery! IBD in the upper GI tract.
