I suspect it should be anytime now within next 24 hours.
Spoke to her vet again and they said most people don't get an xray. And if she crys loud after labor then something is wrong to bring her in asap which I will.
they are a 24 hour clinic. I think she will be fine though she is very healthy and weighed 7 pounds before getting prego. |
I am not too sure if you think that is the only reason something is wrong; how about if after well the experts say 2hrs of contractions with no birth, I give only 1.5 hrs as it can take me 20 minutes to get to the vet, that she is in trouble!
I breed large breed dogs, and I always do an Xray, hey you'd think large breed dogs no problem, and you'd be far off the mark. Breech birth is a breech birth, uterine exhaustion can happen in all breeds, dead puppy in the birth canal same thing. Too big of a head to birth naturally, yep can happen even with large breeds. Eclampsia for sure, especially with a large litter.
And yes I am aware Xrays are not definitive in terms of number of puppies, but they can give me position, and some idea of head measurements. And you get a guesstimate of the number of pups.
I had a friend who almost lost her bitch to just this happenstance, a dead puppy in the birth canal, she did not re-act soon enough so she lost the next puppy behind and almost lost her bitch as well

Emergency C section happened And she was not a novice breeder, just wasn't so concerned with timing of deliveries and contractions. By the time she called us and we came, and sent her to the vet, it was too late for that last puppy that was presumably alive.
