I feed premade raw and really like it for my kiddos. One theory with raw is that bc the natural enzymes are still present in the meat (rather than cooked out/killed), it helps teeth bc digestion does start in the mouth (for us too). That said, I believe most dental health is determined by genetics....THAT said (lol), all disease including gum disease etc is caused by a combo of nature (genetics) and nurture (lifestyle)...so you can see how it goes beyond simply genetics.
I think a very important component of dental health is chewing. I have my dogs use chews about 3-4x a week - I use CET chews (get at Amazon, not at vet), RMBs (raw meaty bones - the BEST for teeth!), Honest Kitchen Beams, and a few other misc chews.
My 3 kiddos all come from different breeders and none of them have needed dentals yet - and they are ages 9, 6, and 3....for whatever it's worth.
