Terri gave wonderful advise but truthfully if your aunt is unwilling to be on hands and consistent with the training it will never happen. Puppies are Hard work and it takes willingness and consistency from all of the humans in the home in order for the training to work. Some pups get it right away and other need more work. Some for up to 8 months or more before they can be trusted to potty in those designated areas and not on the floor in your home. It takes time and proper training before a puppy knows what is expected of it, whether it be behavior or potty issues.

Im not very familiar with the pad training, my pups were all cage and paper trained. But I do have some proven techniques on my site if you would like to read them and possibly find something that would work for your aunt and her new addition. (link is below)
