With all the recalls these days, they probably told you to keep it in the bag so you can check the numbers if your food is recalled
I didn't know that the shelf life was 6 weeks. Good to know that. I have a Vittles Vault but it's soooo hard to open! I end up keeping a few days worth of food in a ziploc bag so I only have to open it occasionally.
