Your vet will know if there is a lepto problem where you live. Please know that the lepto vaccine does not cover all the strains of leptospirosis bacteria (called serovars) that exist in the environment. We have a lepto "problem" here, but I have opted not to give it. I have in the past to my older dogs.
If you choose to do lepto, it is given as a combo shot as DHLPP. Then you have to do a lepto booster, I believe every year and there are some vets who say for it to be really effective you have to do every 6 months.
