I mentioned that my dog has often eaten a couple of Tums - that were supposed to be for me....and, has never had a problem.
I am super careful with my medicines (only premarin and provera) but, never worried about Tums and obviously haven't been too careful with these.
Anyway - I found this article written by a vet:
-----------------------------------
To the best of my knowledge, there is no problem with using unflavored Tums (tm) in dogs for calcium carbonate requirements. One Tums tablet contains 0.5gm of calcium carbonate. Mike Richards, DVM
The same site later said that Tums often help some dogs with chronic arthritis.

So - apparently - they are safe for dogs.
