Depends on the State. Dog is property some States you can protect your property with lethal force. Some States you will be prosecuted for shooting someone for hurting your dog. I'm just saying know your laws. If they are killing your dog you may need to jump in between and take a hit. You then reluctanly draw your weapon because you fear for your life.
