My mom makes it almost every year, especially if my brother has lots of cabbage in his garden. IDK how true it is but my grandma taught her how to make it and she is very old school and does things by the lunar signs and old wives tales..never make cabbage when you are menstrating..it won't ferment right and will turn black.
Honest to Pete mom did kraut one year and ignored Mamaw's rule..it was black as tar and not edible.
