Teeka is 11 months and black as the day I brought her home. Tatiana is 6 months, tomorrow. In the last 2 weeks, I have noticed on her back by her shoulder, it is turning a slate gray. It is just on her shoulder area that is turning. Is this how they break coat? I thought I would see the change at the roots first.
I have never had a yorkie that has changed her coat color.....Tameka stayed black all her life and Teeka is very black. So Tatiana color change has me curious and excited! |
Bella changed color at the roots first. After I took her to the groomer's for the first time and they removed all the black tips, she underwent a remarkable transformation in appearance from black to silver-blue. I think that the color usually changes at the roots first (I'm not sure how else it could change), so if your Yorkie is a darker color, then maybe the change at the roots isn't as obvious? I know that the standard is for a darker steel-blue color. Maybe that is the slate gray you are seeing? Also, maybe not all the parts of her coat are changing at the same time, and some parts are remaining black for now. At any rate, color change is indeed exciting!
