I think that for some humans, I call them either a Girl Momma, or a Boy Momma.
It does depend on the breed also, many breeds are decidedly sex-typed, that being somehow along with the males being larger and stronger generally then the females, that there are personality differences as well. Speaking in a generalized way.
I think it is best to think about the "type" of dog you want, rather then first the sex of the dog.
