Ok, so he was able to hold it for 8 hrs. in his pen today! Based on what I'm hearing from you all, he might now be able to go much longer than that. We've been trying the pen for a few weeks now. He used to just pee in there automatically...breaking him from pee pad training from when I first got him at 3 months.
I figure if he's in the the pen and has to go---that's essentially "going on the pad." I just don't want him to think it's ok to go in the house period. When I take him to other people's houses it's so stressful.
