Yes, definitely watch LOTR! If you can get them, watch the EEs. There's so much more detail and some things make more sense. It usually takes me two days of dedicated couch potato-ing to get through all 6 DVDs, or 6 consecutive nights.
I'm still trying to get a grip on a Doxie as Gimli. Just can't quite picture it. Maybe a Scottie?
