IMHO, until the source of the gunk and smell is diagnosed by a vet I would not attempt to clean yourself. The ear canal in the Yorkie is complicated and not accessible easily. The vet has proper tools to examine and clean/ flush as necessary. Then he will administer drops or medication. The vet will advise if and how to clean at home. Again this could be a simple issue if seen by a vet.
