My Mercedes is 8 months old and in heat also. In addition, I have her brother which is not fixed and would be more than happy to breed with her. I keep them totally seperated. You can't leave them together for a minute! Once they are locked, there is nothing you can do to seperate them. They should not, for numerous reason, breed. You don't want your young female bred at all this heat cycle, she is too young. And yes, it does last about 3 weeks. Super duper pain in the butt, but you must keep them seperated. Now I am juggling schedules so they can both have free time but not be near each other. Mark on your calendar when you notice the bleeding and then don't let them together for 3 and a half weeks to be safe. The bleeding will stop....don't think it is over then....that is when they are ready to breed.
