I've heard of seizures manifesting this way. Hope it goes away and never comes back and was just something up there above the ceiling he sensed or smelled - even just a small rodent or bird that crawled in and died or a nest of bugs or something(hope not that either but better that than a sick dog!). Still, if it keeps up, I know you'll take him to the vet for an exam and probably some tests. All kinds of things though can make them act strangely - even liver shunt and the toxins in the brain from it. Hopefully though, just an aberration and he's back completely normal for good.
