Given that your vet is competent, I think Piper will do fine. When I first took Tatiana to the vet when I got her (she was about three years old), I was told all her remaining teeth had to be removed, as they were rotten.

Tatiana recovered just fine, and she's happy. Also, she has a clean bill of health. She has no problems eating. I gave her home-cooked meals, and quality canned food. She still plays with her chew toys like she still has teeth.
