YorkieMom1, I'm so glad I read this thread! I made the appointment for Lexi's spay for July 5th. By then, she will be a few days past 9 months. My vet suggested that she be spayed at 6 months, but I've just dreaded taking her in. After reading your response I will cancel her appointment and wait until after her 1st heat. From what I read, her age may have allowed time for her growth plates to mature, but she still needs to benefit from the first release of hormones.
