Two (2) parents that only carry recessive (long hair length) genes cannot pass on a DOMINATE (smooth coat / short hair length) gene because they do not possess the gene themselves.

So it comes down to the immediate parents and not some throw-back gene from 15 generations back?
And the hair length is only determined by dominant genes?
No long-recessive gene can suddenly jump up and produce an atypical short-hair unless both parents fail to have the long-hair gene?
