The breed standard calls for a certain color coat. The Yorkie is supposed to be a dog with a solid color body and lighter colors on the limbs. I have seen gold or "blonde" Yorkies and they are beautiful but they are not what the standard calls for. One of the reasons for a breed standard is to help to maintain the original characteristics of the breed. Usually those who show their dogs in AKC competitions are pretty careful in trying to meet those standards.
There are other registries available in the US but none of them are involved in maintaining accurate records or in trying to maintain the breed purity. |
