Piper I am so sorry your baby Piper has to go through this dental procedure, and I feel for you as his caring and stressed out mom. First, please do not be concerned, he will be well taken care of and be fine. I trust the vet will be aware of the special anesthetic needs of small dogs and that he will explain in advance what will be done. I know how you feel as my boy had dentals over a week ago and I was a basket case!! I hated taking him in early with no food on board, as he loves his breakfast, and waiting to hear it was over. However by noon the vet said he was fine and when I took him home late afternoon he was almost back to his old self. Even wanting food, but I was told to go easy on that until the anesthetic was out of his system. He did not have extractions, but other dogs I have known who have seem not to notice they have lost teeth! I am sure he will need antibiotics post op, but that will be fine, and perhaps pain meds for a day or so. He would probably find it easier to eat soft food for a few days for his delicate mouth.
Praying he will have a successful dental and recover quickly.
I can see how upset you are being unaware of the state of Piper's teeth prior to the recent findings. It must have been a big shock to go from perfect health to multiple extractions in so little time. I guess it is not so easy to see defects in such tiny teeth and the damage may have been below the gum line?
Thinking of you and Piper and wishing all will be well soon, and that you will feel less anxious as well. Hugs. |
