Here is my opinion. Take him with you, if YOU can keep him safe from the big labs. That means he needs a crate. Your parents need to be on board and not let him out un-supervised with the big dogs.
If you are comfortable that this could happen then do this.
If not, at home with a pet sitter and or dog walker. At least once per day.
Or have your hubby take him to doggy day care.
12 hrs away from home is a very long time.
