If you ever do consider LASIK, please research it first. There are dangers that nobody ever mentions including irreversible and severe corneal damage (the flap they make never truly heals and can open years and years later, severe visual acuity deficits over time that can't be corrected, cornea cell death, weakening of the cornea, etc.). One of the pioneers of this surgery will no longer perform it because it is (in his opinion and mine) unethical. |
I think as long as you find a good doctor, LASIK is pretty safe these days. I had it done in 2001, when it was new & still expensive. 12 years later, I still have 20/20 vision. In fact, LASIK corrected the astigmatism in my right eye. Since I've gotten older, I find that my eyes take more time to focus from things like my iPhone/a book to the TV. But that happens with age. It wasn't caused by my LASIK surgery. With the popularity of LASIK rivalling Starbucks these days, there are so many doctors who probably shouldn't be performing the surgery. As with everything else in life, the key is to research & be prepared.
