Yorkies do have very hairy ears. Some say keep them plucked, others say leave them alone. I started off not plucking Kiko's ears. Then she started scratching a lot, no smell, just lots of scratching. I took her to the vet. She had an ear infection. The vet said that because she had so much ear hair, air couldn't circulate allowing the ears to be warm and moist, good enviroment for bacteria. The vet plucked her ears (showed me how so I could do it myself) and gave her an antibiotic ointment/gel that I had to put in Kiko's ears for about a week. Whenever Kiko's ears start to get too hairy, I pluck the hair. She hasn't had an ear infection since.

Hope that helps.
