Should I just not encourage potty training until 16 weeks then? Well not necessarily not encourage it but not enforce it? She went pee on the pad once and I gave her a few multigrain Cheerios. Although I don't think she realized that she had went pee on the pad.
Oh, sure encourage her to go potty where she is supposed to. Just keep in mind that she has no real ability to hold it any length of time. So your timing is most important for the first few weeks. Having a pee pad near by when you can't be right there to get her outside, or where ever she is supposed to go, will help her. Most commercial puppy pads have a hormone on them that help attract the pup to the pad and encourages them to pee there. When you take her outside take her to the same spot each time. The scent will encourage her to go and she will also start to make the connection in her mind that that is her potty area.
