well I would start with a very inexpensive machine....you can buy bags of scrap fabric like a joanns and just practice sewing your stitches and getting straight lines. you will also need an iron and ironing board............you can also find free patterns on a sticky in the ff and I would print off and easy one and then you can try putting together your first outfit.
