When Rufus got neutered he did fine. He was a different case, 1 hour after the operation he was fully awake and barking.
What the vet told me was to make sure he was kept warm. Their body temperature can drop really fast.
Also he might vomit or have diarrhea (side effect of the anesthesia) , but be careful for it not to go on for too long.
Don't let him lick his wound to much. Are you using a cone or a overall?
Don't feed him right after he comes home, and when you feed him, give him small portions.
Let him drink water but not too much at one time, also in small portions.
