My daughter put the deposit down (as ZoE was over on the side of the state where she was at university), and I paid the balance in cash.
I used to think a certified check/cashier's check was the same as cash...turns out it's not true.
I bought a new car & sold my old car two months ago, and was informed by my bank that they are only as good as cash if they are drawn on the bank you're depositing in, otherwise they take a few days to clear just like a regular check. So a few days before a title could be cleared of a lien if you have a lien on the vehicle. They said this is because of the new fangled printers/scanners and how easy it has become to make a really good fake. Thankfully my car was owned free & clear, and both my sale & purchase were cash, but it was new information to me.
