I seem to have gone from one end of the spectrum, with a vet with my last yorkie, who was all about money/billing and would try to sell you everything under the sun....to a different vet with ZoE, who doesn't push anything on you. She had a BAT done at around 6 months. Had bloodwork done before her spay at 6month. Had bloodwork done at one year with her full physical. Had her two year physical & he said there was no need for yearly bloodwork at her age with no issues, and that every other year is fine. (although she still had blood drawn for her heartworm test)
Does this seem right? Should I be requesting something more? |
Sounds good to me. One thing I would suggest though is routine urine testing if you are not doing that..I did fail in that and it was not the fault of my vet. I probably would have picked up Teddy's issues before he got really bad.
As for the yearly blood work...I do prefer it myself...BUT the thing is that for a HW test it is around $30 and if I do blood work that also adds on the HW test it is $46. So, it is really only an extra $16. My vet encourages it.
And, YES, there are very responsible pet owners out there. I am not saying anything other and did not mean to insult anyone...I was merely responding to the talk about doing tests that IMHO and the opinions of my vets do not feel is necessary. Again, to each his own.
