If there are any wild animals that get into the side yard, there could be problems with some of the diseases they carry in their urine and droppings. But if you are with her the whole time and watch her and don't let her pick up and eat stuff, and the side yard is free of wild animals, she should be okay. And is the side yard escape-proof? Yorkies are notorious escape artists, so if it's not built like Fort Knox, don't leave her out unattended. My Bella is puppy pad (indoors) trained, and I've only just begun to start letting her walk on grass for extended periods, 2 weeks after getting her final puppy shots.
