Hello, I am new here and hope this is the right place to go. I have a 15 year old Yorkie/Pom mix named Knarly. I have had him since he was 6 weeks old. This dog is my baby, my life and my best friend. He got me through some really, really tough times...where people abandoned me, he was always there.

Last year, Knarly stopped eating. Up till then, he has been super healthy and we had never been to the vet for any other problems. He needed a dental, which the vet said he should have yearly from now on. He did great after that, and as time passed, so did another year and I took him back in for another dental. A couple hours later, the vet called and said he had a continuous heart murmur and didn't feel it was worth the risk for a dental.

It was right after that, things started to slide. It is going so quickly, he has good and bad days, but I never know when he may stop eating and lethargic. I had to start giving him soft food just so he could eat and he has been doing fairly ok for the most part. But yesterday, he started panting and breathing heavy. He couldn't get comfortable, he kept trying to adjust, brace himself, squeaked a bit and vomited a couple times. I called the vet crying, begging for them to see him.

I thought it was the end for sure and even putting him to sleep had creeped into my head, but he then started to snap out of it just a little before we were heading to vet. The vet was great with him, and amazed how active and physical he was for his age. He confirmed the heart problems and a UTI. He put him on antibiotics and I/D. He said to watch for a purple tongue if he has another attack, because it meant his heart wasn't working properly and he wasn't getting oxygen. He said there wasn't much I could do other than just try to comfort him through it.

Things were pretty much back to normal like nothing had happened, but today, about the same time, he had another attack. I noticed the tongue, it was indeed purple. I lightly wrapped him in a towel like a burrito, massaging and talking softly to him....he slowly relaxed into a calm sleep. I started crying because I know his time is getting shorter.

The vet said we need to treat the infections first as they will attack the heart, then look into maybe some pills for his heart. I am hoping to find others who maybe have more experience with things like this or even just someone who understands. I'm just feel so alone.

I am sorry this is so long.
