I'm curious about this too. Not for ZoE, but my DD is getting a puppy next month & she plans on using bells on her door.
How do you start out with a puppy? Do YOU ring the bell as you are taking it outside, so it associates the bell with going outside? Or do you put the pup's nose against the bells, so it's actually ringing the bells before going out? Do you also say the word potty, as you're doing it?
