A little over a week ago, we brought home a 9 month old male yorkie...his name is Teddy and he is just the sweetest dog! Teddy came to us all scraggly and knotted and he had waaaaay overgrown nails that were starting to curl under toward the pad. You can also feel every notch in his spine as well as his hips and ribs so we are in the process of helping him to fill out (harder than I expected but I know it will take some time to do gradually...Toki looks kinda like a hippo when the two of them sit side-by-side lol he has a bigger frame but they weigh the same and she's fluffier

). He was neutered yesterday and had some baby teeth taken out so today is all R&R...we have been so busy the past week getting everything taken care of and getting everyone at home adjusted to our new addition...whew! Teddy is pretty close in size to Toki and has a similar energy level...they can really keep up with each other and are getting along so well...I know that they will be perfect companions over time
This is my first male dog and I'm still learning a lot of new things. No major issues have come up so far with introducing a second dog. The first day, Teddy was trying to mount Toki literally everytime she stopped to scratch her neck or bent over to drink some water. I'm assuming it's because he wasn't neutered but probably more so because he developed the behavior and it was never corrected (we have had female dogs that did this but certainly not to this extent!). The humping hasn't been as much of a problem over the past few days since we have been diligent in disrupting and redirecting. Toki seems to have accepted him as well...the first couple of days she was constantly intercepting Teddy every time he tried to come up to us but now they spend more time near each other and playing together and she doesn't seem to mind us petting him, leashing him up, feeding him, etc. (these things were all somewhat upsetting to Toki the first couple of days).
One issue/inconvenience that has come up is that when we take Teddy out to pee, sometimes it comes out so fast or forcefully that he gets urine all over the back of his front leg...I'm not sure if there is much that I can do besides wiping him off when we come inside. I've tried taking him out more frequently to see if a smaller volume of urine will help "slow the flow" but that has not really been successful. I would appreciate any advice if you all have dealt with this before...we still love him regardless!
I feel like I'm rambling! Anyway, here are some pictures from the past week...the first 2 are before our trip to the groomer...you could just tell that he felt like a million bucks afterward!
