I leave mine in the bedroom-he is 4 yrs-with the tv on. He knows my schedule and when I come home on time, he is very excited to see me. If I am late due to a meeting or very busy shift, he cowers on the bed and looks forlorn and heartbroken like "I thought you left me forever". Luckily, hubby and I work opposite so he is rarely alone for long unless hubby is out of town.
I agree with the others about leaving food out at this age, and I think going home daily at lunch is the thing to do, if you can, at least for a couple of months, until he is past the high risk for hypoglycemia age. Also, my pup ate purina for the 1st 3 years, but once I changed him to Blue Buffalo Freedom small dog, he visibly became healthier and the inexplicable vomiting that he would have several times a month completely stopped. I highly recommend changing him from Purina.
