I think it's a nylon cord, I got from wal mart. It's great for the park because he can "think" he's running free lol and it's really long and that's after I cut it in half so you could have it however long you want. I just tie it really good to the harness so you don't have to worry about it coming off but even then I'm still always holding the other end
