I'm happy to report that Sammy is recovering well! I only kept the cone on when I had to leave the house. I am letting him keep it off overnight, since he sleeps with us, we will be aware if he is licking the wound. He tried a few times, and I told him NO! And he stopped immediately and hasn't tried again. The swelling has gone down, the color is getting back to normal, and Sammy is energetic and playful, so I guess all is well
