I would spay her when she is out of heat - some vets won't spay while they're in heat. Make sure she doesn't get pregnant.
Be very, very careful where you take her to be spayed. I'm speaking from experience here.
I also have a female Maltese that I got from a breeder, because she had to have C-sections. I took her to be spayed, and the vet cut through her scar and stitched it closed - and put on an abdominal binder. My gut told me there would be problems, but he insisted it was okay.....well....the next morning, I woke up, and she (my dog) had a funny look on her face...I unwrapped her abdominal binder and her incision had broken open and her insides were coming out!

I WAS HOME ALONE.
I called my vet to meet me, wrapped a clean towel around her belly, and took off. I only had my PJs on but I wasn't about to stop to dress, this was an emergency. I was terrified.
This time, the dumb*** stapled her incision. Needless to say, I would NEVER allow him to do surgery on my dogs again (I only have 2). I buy heartworm Rx from him but that's all.
Be very careful where you have your dog spayed.
