I agree, if you're in any doubt about your technique, or if you might use the results to challenge the breeder, I'd have it done by the vet. There are home tests that can be done, but if you go that route, you have to be VERY careful not to cross-contaminate the sample. That means wearing latex gloves when taking the cheek swab, and doing the swab first thing in the morning before the puppy has eaten anything, because the DNA from food can contaminate the sample.
